Frank Ocean Just Revealed His Skin-Care Routine—And His Music Royalty Beauty Idol It’s official: Frank Ocean—trailblazing musician, 35-mm photographer, hair color chameleon, and overall celestial being—is now spreading the gospel of skin care. “I really do believe in night cream,” declares Ocean in a new interview. “I need [it] because when I wake up I feel very beautiful, moisturized, and ready to have people making eye contact with me, ready to look above my eyebrow, below the eyebrow. That’s the life hack right there.”
But skin care doesn’t end there for the 31-year-old singer-songwriter. In fact, he’s encouraging men with a more no-frills beauty approach to recognize that cleansing daily is a non-negotiable, too. “I feel like men just go to sleep,” he explains. “They may wash their face or they don’t even bother—they go to sleep with the day face on. You really need to do a gentle wash and put a night moisturizer on.” What’s more? Retinol, one of the most popular skincare ingredients lauded for fighting fine lines and maintaining a healthy glow, is also a must—but only in the evening, says Ocean. “You can’t have the retinol in your creams in the day because it makes you more sun-sensitive, so you wanna throw that on at night.” It also comes as little surprise that the R&B star’s skin care sensei is agelessly-glowing, 45-year-old Pharrell Williams, with whom he has a close working relationship, having collaborated together on both Channel Orange (2012) and Blonde (2016). “It’s been all these years, and Pharrell still hasn’t given us the keys yet,” he laments. “He just says ‘exfoliate,’ but it’s not just ‘exfoliate’: We need more keys.” And if there’s anyone the world wants on the case, it’s Ocean, who is clearly way ahead of the grooming game himself.
