Akshay Kumar’s war movie Kesari has registered the biggest opening of 2019, with an early estimate of Rs 22 crore. The film released during the festive time of Holi and despite several multiplexes being shut for the morning shows, registered a decent start with 20 per cent occupancy. Through the evening, Kesari opened to massive footfalls assuring that this Akshay Kumar starrer becomes the first film of 2019 to cross Rs 20 crore on its opening day!
Trade Analyst Ramesh Bala confirmed the opening figure of Kesari.With this big start, Kesari has bagged the top spot in opening day figures for 2019, beating Gully Boy (Rs 19.40 crore) and Total Dhamaal (Rs 16.50 crore). Akshay Kumar’s personal record at the box office too has been praise-worthy. His last solo release Gold, earned an opening figure of Rs 25.25 core, recording Akshay’s biggest box office opening ever.
The numbers are expected to increase with positive word of mouth publicity and the nearing weekend attracting more crowds.Akshay Kumar has been extensively promoting Kesari, during his promotional visit to Delhi he was surrounded by fans eager to catch a glimpse of their faovurite actor. Kesari released in 3600 screens across the country, however it did not enjoy a solo stint at the box office as Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota released at the same time.
Kesari is produced by Karan Johar and is based on the battle of Saragarhi wherein Akshay plays the lead role of Havildar Ishar Singh. The film traces the story of 21 Sikh soldiers who bravely fought 10000 Afghan troops in 1897. Kesari also features Parineeti Chopra, as Akshay Kumar’s wife. Kesari is the first hit of 2019, coming from Akshay Kumar. The actor has more entertainment lined up with Mission Mangal, Good News and Housefull 4 releasing later this year.
